A social media report for clients should explain the agreed objective, what happened during the reporting period, what the available evidence supports and what you recommend doing next. Keep the account scope and metric definitions visible. A shorter report with a useful decision is more actionable than a long export without context.
If you manage several brands, establish the boundaries described in our guide to managing multiple clients' accounts before exporting a report. A report belongs to its selected accounts, and the client name alone does not enforce that selection.
Use a repeatable report structure
Section | What to include | Question it answers |
|---|---|---|
Scope | Client, accounts, dates, comparison window and extraction date. | What work and evidence does this cover? |
Objective and result | The agreed objective and the relevant measured outcome. | Did the work move in the intended direction? |
Content evidence | Representative posts, their results and links where available. | Which creative choices deserve another test? |
Limitations | Missing metrics, newly connected channels and attribution boundaries. | What cannot be concluded? |
Next decision | A specific change, its owner and the next observation to review. | What will the team do with this information? |
This is an editorial template, not an industry reporting standard. Agree on a cadence with the client and retain the same definitions between reports. Annotate changes to the channel mix, paid distribution or measurement setup so that a comparison does not hide a changed basis.
Choose metrics that answer the client's question
For awareness, use the platform's available audience or viewing measures and label them precisely. For content response, examine the relevant interactions and the post itself. For traffic or leads, obtain the website or customer-system evidence needed to support those outcomes. Our explanation of useful social media metrics helps frame that choice.
Keep views and unique viewers distinct. YouTube describes unique viewers as an estimate of the people who watched during a period, accounting for repeat viewing. It also explains that the same person can count as a unique viewer for different videos. Adding video-level unique-viewer values therefore should not be presented as a deduplicated channel audience. See YouTube's unique-viewer documentation, checked 2026-10-18.
For website traffic, Google Analytics documents campaign URL parameters such as utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. Their values identify referring campaigns in acquisition reporting. Use consistent naming and check the destination measurement separately; a tagged link by itself does not establish a sale. See Google Analytics' campaign URL guidance, checked 2026-10-18.
Do not label a combined cross-platform view total as unique people reached. Keep the constituent platform measures accessible, and describe any total as an aggregate of those measures. Likewise, do not turn a higher interaction count into a revenue claim without matching business evidence.
Preserve missing data and comparison coverage
Missing measurement and a measured zero mean different things. Uplonic's report model retains nullable metrics, renders unavailable values as a dash in the report and leaves them blank in CSV output. Its total comparison is withheld when a selected channel lacks a comparable previous period. These implementation rules were reviewed and exercised by the existing report tests on 2026-10-18.
Situation | Report treatment | Client explanation |
|---|---|---|
The platform does not provide a metric. | Retain an unavailable value. | The metric was not measured; it is not a measured zero. |
A newly connected channel has no comparison history. | Withhold the combined prior-period delta. | The selected account set does not have comparable history. |
A follower-series sample is missing for a measured channel. | Leave a gap in the combined series. | A missing sample should not look like a sudden loss of followers. |
Current totals can still be partial when individual metrics are unavailable. Read the channel rows and coverage notes before describing a total as complete. A populated PDF is not proof that every selected network supplied every metric.
Check scope before applying the client's branding
Uplonic's report implementation builds its channel data from the same comparison data used by the dashboard. The report includes channel rows, platform rows, totals, a follower series and top content. The PDF and scheduled report paths share the same report builder. These are source-reviewed product capabilities; this article is not a tested click-by-click export guide.
Select the client's exact channels. In the current implementation, an empty channel selection means the workspace's active channels. That may be appropriate for a dedicated workspace, but should not be assumed to isolate a client inside a shared workspace.
Reporting and custom branding have separate feature checks. The code checks the branding entitlement again when building the report, so a previously saved branded schedule does not establish that a later report will still be branded after a plan change. Confirm the preview, account selection and current entitlement before relying on a branded client handoff.
Turn the report into the next piece of work
Write a short interpretation next to the evidence: what changed, which plausible explanation you want to investigate, and what observation could challenge it. Label a hypothesis as a hypothesis. A successful post is a reason to test a related idea, not proof that repeating the format will reproduce the result.
Assign the next action and add it to the client's content calendar. Keep requests for assets, approval and budget explicit so that the next reporting conversation can explain whether the agreed work actually happened.
