100,000 long-form views earn about $513 to $807 with a US audience, $312 to $490 with a UK audience and $78 to $122 with a Hungarian one. On YouTube, where your viewers watch from moves your income more than anything else you control, and Shorts, niche and US tax withholding come after that.
This is the YouTube part of a bigger picture. If you are still choosing a platform, our guide to becoming a streamer shows where each income stream fits. If you want the niche-by-niche RPM medians from a 300-channel study, see how much YouTubers make per view. This article explains the whole YouTube paycheck and ends with a calculator you can run on your own Studio numbers.
How YouTube pays you: three revenue shares
YouTube's own terms set three splits, and every estimate starts from them:
Long videos: you keep 55% of net ad revenue from ads shown on your watch page.
Shorts: ads run between Shorts, so the revenue goes into a pool, and you keep 45% of what is allocated to you.
Fan funding: memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers and Super Thanks pay you 70%.
What reaches you per 1,000 views is your RPM. It is always lower than the CPM advertisers pay, for two reasons: YouTube's share, and the views that show no ad at all. MilX's data on more than 3,000 channels puts RPM at 35–55% of CPM, which is why every number in this article is a range.
None of it starts until you are in the YouTube Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million engaged Shorts views in the last 90 days. From February 1, 2027, new applicants need twice that; our per-view article has the details.
Your viewers' country matters more than your own
Advertisers pay for the audience, not the creator. In MilX's 2026 data, US viewers bring an average CPM of $14.67, UK viewers $8.91, Brazil $1.64 and India $0.74. Turned into RPM for an average-niche long video, that gives:
Viewers in | Per 1,000 long-form views | Per 100,000 long-form views |
|---|---|---|
United States | $5.13–$8.07 | $513–$807 |
Germany | $3.43–$5.38 | $343–$538 |
United Kingdom | $3.12–$4.90 | $312–$490 |
Hungary | $0.78–$1.22 | $78–$122 |
Brazil | $0.57–$0.90 | $57–$90 |
India | $0.26–$0.41 | $26–$41 |
The same 100,000 views can earn twenty times more in one market than in another. For markets MilX does not publish, Hungary among them, the calculator uses RevenueLab's 80-country table, calibrated against MilX on the markets the two share; those rows are marked as derived.
This also explains why industry "RPM by niche" medians look low next to the US row. A channel's real RPM is a blend of all its viewer countries. A typical channel with 20–40% US viewers lands around $2–$4, which is where the medians in our per-view article sit.
Shorts: a shared pool, paid on engaged views
A Short does not carry its own ads. YouTube adds up each country's Shorts feed ad revenue, sets aside a cut for music licensing, and splits the rest among monetizing creators by their share of engaged views in that country. You then keep 45% of your allocation.
Two consequences follow. Your niche does not change your Shorts RPM, because the pool is per country, not per topic. And the public view count is the wrong input: since March 31, 2025 it includes every replay, while payouts still use engaged views.
Viewers in | Per 1 million engaged Shorts views |
|---|---|
United States | $100–$320 |
United Kingdom | $62–$198 |
Hungary | $19–$62 |
India | about $15 |
Compare the two tables: 100,000 long-form views from the US earn more than 1 million US Shorts views. Shorts are a discovery engine; the long videos and streams they lead to are where the money is.
Niche: the second lever, for long videos only
Finance and business audiences attract advertisers with high customer value. In published 2026 CPM tables, finance runs about twice the average and gaming about a third. For 100,000 US long-form views that means:
Niche (US viewers) | Per 100,000 long-form views |
|---|---|
Finance & investing | $1,027–$1,614 |
Average / mixed | $513–$807 |
Gaming | $185–$290 |
Treat this as a direction, not a promise. Inside a niche, your topic and your viewers' buying intent move the number further, and a niche you do not care about will not keep you uploading for two years.
US tax withholding if you live outside the US
If you live outside the US, Google withholds US tax on what you earn from US viewers: ads, Premium, memberships and Super Chat. The rate comes from your country's tax treaty, using the "other copyright royalties" column of the IRS treaty table: 0% for the UK, Germany and France, 15% for India, 30% where no treaty applies. Without tax info in AdSense, 24% of your worldwide earnings is withheld.
Hungary is the common surprise. The US terminated its tax treaty with Hungary, and since January 1, 2024 the full 30% applies to earnings from US viewers. Earnings from Hungarian and other non-US viewers are not affected.
Worked example: a Hungarian channel
Here is a channel with 100,000 long-form views and 500,000 engaged Shorts views a month, an average niche, 60% of viewers in Hungary, 20% in the US and 20% elsewhere. The creator lives in Hungary and has submitted tax info.
Line | Per month |
|---|---|
Long-form ads (blended RPM $1.77–$2.79) | $177–$279 |
Shorts | $19–$61 |
Gross | $197–$340 (middle: $268) |
US tax withheld (30% of the US-viewer share) | about $12–$20 |
Paid out | $185–$319 (middle: $252) |
Two things stand out. The 20% US audience brings in more than half of the long-form revenue, so growing an English-speaking audience is worth more than doubling Hungarian views. And memberships are not small next to this: 20 members at $4.99 pay 20 × $4.99 × 70% = $69.86 a month, about a quarter of the ad income.
Run your own version with the numbers from YouTube Studio → Analytics → Audience → Top geographies:
What do you publish?
Monetized and unmonetized views together, the RPM accounts for views without ads.
YouTube Studio → Analytics → Advanced mode → Engaged views. Since March 2025 the regular view count includes every replay; revenue uses engaged views.
Shorts revenue is shared per country across all creators, so niche only moves long-form ads.
Memberships, US tax and your own RPM
Fan funding (70% to you)
Gross amount viewers paid.
US tax withholding
Non-US creators have tax withheld on earnings from US viewers, the rate depends on your country's treaty.
Know your RPM?
Optional. Overrides the estimate; the country mix still drives the tax.

What to do with these numbers
Before YPP, optimize for watch hours. Your RPM is zero until you are accepted, and long videos people finish get you there faster than Shorts views.
After YPP, enter your real RPM. Studio shows it per format; put it into the calculator's advanced options and the estimate becomes yours, with the tax still worked out from your audience mix.
Do not stop at ad revenue. Sponsor integrations often pay many times a $2 ad RPM; see how much to charge for a sponsored post.
Use Shorts for reach, everywhere. The same vertical clip runs on TikTok and Reels too; TikTok's Creator Rewards pays a different rate with different rules, and our guide on turning streams into Shorts, TikToks and Reels covers the workflow.
Posting every clip three times by hand is where most creators give up. Uplonic lets you upload once, write separate copy for YouTube, TikTok and Reels, and schedule each on its own timing.
FAQ
How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?
For a long video watched in the US, about $5.10–$8.10 per 1,000 views on an average niche; UK viewers bring about $3.10–$4.90 and Indian viewers $0.26–$0.41. Shorts pay far less: about $0.10–$0.32 per 1,000 engaged views from the US.
How much does YouTube pay for 1 million Shorts views?
With a fully US audience, about $100–$320 for 1 million engaged views; with a mostly Indian audience, closer to $15. What counts is engaged views, not the public view count.
Does my niche change my Shorts earnings?
No. Shorts revenue is pooled per country and split by engaged views, so niche only affects long-form ads, where finance can earn about twice the average and gaming about a third.
How much US tax does YouTube withhold?
US residents: none. Elsewhere: 0–30% of what you earn from US viewers, depending on your country's tax treaty — 30% in Hungary and Brazil, 15% in India, 0% in the UK and Germany. Without tax info in AdSense: 24% of all earnings.
Sources & methodology
How we got these numbers: revenue shares, the Shorts pool, the engaged-views rule, YPP thresholds and withholding rules come from YouTube's own Help Center. Country CPMs are MilX's 2026 data; markets MilX does not publish come from RevenueLab's table, calibrated to MilX. Shorts RPM by country is Fluxnote's 2026 data, niche multipliers are normalized from OutlierKit's CPM tables, and treaty rates come from the IRS treaty table. Every figure in the tables and the worked example is the output of our calculator with these inputs; it is an estimate, not a forecast. Checked October 2026.
