How TikTok LIVE Gifts Work in 2026: Coins and Diamonds

Understand viewer Coins, LIVE Gifts, creator Diamonds and reward payments. Learn why a Gift's purchase price does not establish the creator's payout.

On this page

TikTok LIVE Gifts let viewers react to a creator during a broadcast using virtual items activated with Coins. TikTok uses engagement to recognize creator popularity through Diamonds, while reward payments depend on the applicable program terms. A viewer's Coin purchase is not a direct cash payment to the creator.

Follow the viewer side and the creator side separately

TikTok's US Virtual Items Policy, updated January 22, 2026 and checked October 18, 2026, describes Coins as items used to activate platform features, including Gifts. It says gifting does not transfer money or Coins to another user. That distinction explains why the amount a viewer spends cannot be copied into a creator's income spreadsheet.

This is our reconciliation framework, not a currency-conversion table. It helps identify which record answers a viewer's purchase question and which record answers a creator's income question.

The TikTok Creator Rewards calculator models a different program using video and qualified-view inputs. It does not calculate LIVE Gifts, Diamond conversion or a Gift's cash value. Keep that estimate outside your LIVE gifting records.

What happens during a LIVE?

TikTok's official LIVE Fest explanation, published November 13, 2023 and re-read October 18, 2026, describes viewers sending on-screen Gifts after a creator enables LIVE Gifts. It describes Diamonds based on LIVE popularity and a Diamond total in the LIVE summary. This supports the feature mechanism; the old event announcement is not a current eligibility checklist.

For a creator, the useful operational habit is to review the stream summary and keep it with the matching reward records. For a viewer, inspect the displayed Gift cost before sending it. A busy stream can contain many reactions without giving an outside observer enough information to calculate what the creator will receive.

Consider a fictional craft creator demonstrating a repair. Viewers send Gifts while the creator answers questions. The creator records the stream result, then checks the separate reward statement and any payment offer. They do not reconstruct income by looking up the viewer-facing price of each animation.

Why there is no universal Gift-to-cash formula here

The Other-regions Virtual Items Policy, updated January 22, 2026 and checked October 18, 2026, says Coin cost varies by purchase quantity and purchase channel. It describes Diamonds as a popularity measure and states that they do not automatically entitle a user to a reward payment. That policy does not state a universal Coin-to-Diamond-to-dollar rate.

The US policy also distinguishes Diamonds from an automatic reward entitlement. Consequently, this article does not supply a fixed cash value for a Gift or claim a universal percentage retained by TikTok. For a particular account, consult the actual reward offer, applicable terms and payment records rather than a guessed conversion.

Separate these practical questions: what did the viewer buy, what did the viewer activate, what did TikTok record for the creator, and what amount was actually paid? If a public calculator answers them with a single multiplier, check which current official rule supports that multiplier.

Check region and account access before planning a stream

The US policy applies to US users. The Other-regions policy explicitly excludes the US, EEA, UK and Switzerland. We could read those policy versions, but could not independently retrieve the current EEA-specific terms or detailed LIVE Gifts Help text. Their eligibility and payment details are not generalized to all readers here.

In your account, verify age eligibility, location availability, access to LIVE, account standing and the Gifts setting. Read any reward onboarding and payment conditions offered to you. If a feature is absent, record the account notice before changing your content plan. Do not import a follower requirement from another TikTok program or another region.

We did not enable Gifts, purchase Coins, send a Gift or withdraw a creator reward for this article. It is an explanation based on readable primary documents, not a tested account setup guide. No current universal follower threshold, withdrawal minimum or settlement time is asserted.

Measure LIVE support without confusing it with revenue

Use a content calendar for the LIVE and its follow-up posts so the time commitment is visible. Keep production costs and collected payments separate. A Gift-heavy stream may be encouraging, but its financial result still needs the relevant account statement.

Our guide to meaningful social media metrics explains why interaction and business outcomes need different measures. For LIVE, you might separately review the questions viewers asked, whether people returned, and the payment actually collected. These are editorial suggestions, not a promised growth mechanism.

Your next task is to identify the policy region and confirm account access. After a broadcast, reconcile the stream summary with the reward record and payment status. That produces an account-specific answer supported by the records available to you.

Method: the primary documents below were read October 18, 2026. Regional scopes are kept explicit. The reconciliation matrix and craft-creator example are editorial; no purchase, withdrawal or private account was tested. Unavailable Help and EEA detail is not replaced with assumed numbers.
